In this current semester, I am engaging in a project as part of a humanities projects course, Humanities Projects 1, where I have taken on the responsibility of managing the Instagram and Facebook accounts for Digital Harrisburg. Digital Harrisburg is a website platform dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of Harrisburg, focusing on utilizing digital tools to make historical content accessible to the public. The organization of this project aligns with the goals of the humanities projects course, which is designed for hands-on experience in applying digital methodologies to humanities research.

My project activities are to curate and create engaging content for both the Instagram and Facebook accounts. It is my goal to bring the Instagram account new life by creating a consistent posting schedule as well as a new look. We have never had an official Digital Harrisburg Facebook, so I am proud to announce our Facebook group. Given the visual nature of these social media platforms, I aim to present historical narratives in a visually appealing and understandable manner. This includes designing inviting posts, utilizing relevant information as well as informative captions, and adding relevant hashtags to enhance the discoverability of our content. The context of Digital Harrisburg aims to bridge the gap between the past and the present by digitizing historical materials and presenting them in a way that resonates with modern audiences. My role in managing social media helps move this mission forward, as it involves spreading this content to a wider audience and fostering a sense of community engagement. One of my primary objectives is to increase the visibility of Digital Harrisburg within the community. I aim to not only promote the website’s content but also encourage community members to participate in the preservation of their shared history. As my projects are independent, I find that the creative freedom allows for a more personal and authentic approach. I want to establish communication with the audience by responding to comments and encouraging discussions around historical topics related to Harrisburg. Overall, my role in managing the Instagram and Facebook accounts for Digital Harrisburg serves as a link between the digital and the historical. Through this project, I aim to contribute to the broader goals of the humanities projects course by developing the intersection of social media in the realm of historical preservation
