Starting this semester-long journey working with Digital Harrisburg has been a fascinating experience that has improved my knowledge of the rich history of this city and sharpened my storytelling abilities on social media. Throughout the semester, my main emphasis was creating engaging content for Digital Harrisburg’s Facebook and Instagram pages. I tried to capture the spirit of Harrisburg’s history in these posts, highlighting important historical occurrences and sites that have influenced the community’s identity.
These narratives were accompanied by various visuals, including photographs to illustrations, selected to represent each post accurately and with appropriate aesthetic. These images also allowed viewers to see how Harrisburg has changed throughout time. I cared to show that each post was informative and enjoyable to scroll through, including interesting details that may not be common knowledge. I wanted to create posts that reflected the culture of Harrisburg as well as the information on the Digital Harrisburg website. I revamped the Instagram account and opened a Facebook page with the help of Dr. Pettegrew in order to reach a broader audience.
I found particular joy in creating the Women’s History Month posts. It was rewarding to contribute to a greater cause, shining a spotlight on significant occasions like Women’s History Month. Researching and discussing the remarkable women who left their mark on this city was educating, and I enjoyed showcasing their legacy. I enjoyed my time working on this project as it both gave me invaluable insight into the place that I call home, as well as giving me more experience in a field I am passionate about.

What are the large trees at the civics club in Harrisburg, PA? We were just at a wedding there and they are wonderful!
